Description

Looking to elevate your pecan pie game? Try out Kentucky Derby Pie, inspired by George Kern’s original recipe. With the perfect blend of chocolate and pecans, it’s an excellent choice for any occasion, not just the Kentucky Derby.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 deep dish pie shell, unbaked

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, whisk the eggs, corn syrup, brown sugar, flour, vanilla and salt. Stir in pecans, chocolate chips and butter. Pour into crust. Cover edge with foil or pie protector.
  2. Bake at 350° for 30 minutes. Remove foil; bake 30 minutes longer or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool on a wire rack. Refrigerate leftovers.

Notes

This pie is traditionally made with walnuts.
