DIY Home Office Desk with Sawhorse Legs

DIY Home Office Desk with Sawhorse Legs

Greetings! Am I the only one looking forward to cooler weather. With all the changes going on in the world that is affected our daily living; I recently made the decision to relocate my home office space to the other side of our home. My son is 100% virtual academy and I needed a closed-off space to conduct my work and after-hours blogger job.

I have started using design boards lately to help me recreate spaces since I’m currently working on so many projects it easier to visualize my designs especially when I’m out shopping and for accessories. I ended up having to do a DIY design on my desk because I received the desk in the design board and they shipped me the wrong color by the time I went to try and order the right color it was on backorder. I didn’t get my feathers in a ruffle, because it was actually made out of particleboard. So I took off to Lowes and a few pieces of wood, sawhorses, and paint later, And voila.

Supplies needed for this project:

(2) 21-in W x 29-in H Wood Saw Horse

(2) 3/4-in x 16-in x 6-ft Edge-Glued Panel Spruce Pine Fir Board

(3) Krylon COLORmaxx Gloss White Spray Paint and Primer In One

(3) Krylon Lacquer Specialty Gloss White Spray Paint

(2) Krylon High-gloss Metallic Gold Leaf Metallic Spray Paint

(1) Drop Cloth

(1) Pkg 0.07-in Steel Flat Brace (I used 2 from the package)

(1) container of PrimeGuard Plus 8 x 2-in Polymer Deck Screws

(1) 6 x 9 Drop Cloth

Electric Drill with bits

Step 1: Prime and paint your wood to the color of your choice. I opted for gold legs and a white top.

There were tons of wood options at Lowes, but unfortunately, the cutting machine was down, so to minimize the time on the project I opted to get something that was already cut to a size I could work with. If you have the option to have your wood cut the wood prices are cheaper.

Board is already primer and now I am painting.

Step 2: Once boards and legs are completed dry place the tabletop boards together upside down and use the braces to hold them in place. I had already decided because the desk was so long that I was going to have multiple sitting areas, (on each end and in the middle) so plan for the placement of your legs when placing braces. I recommend at least 4″ from the end on each side.

Step 3: At this point, I recommend moving the desk where you plan on placing it. If you put it all together it could be difficult getting it through small doorframes. Once you are ready simply attach the sawhorse legs with at least 6 screws are on each leg. Do this by placing the sawhorse legs space apart where you want them and then place the tabletop on top of the sawhorse legs. I had 13 1/2″ overhang on each side of my sawhorse legs, but this number can be adjusted based on your wants and the size tabletop you choose. Minus the drying time and the time in Lowes this takes less than 30 minutes to complete.

The space still looks bare hopefully I can wrap it up before the end of the year. Yes, that’s indecisive Omniley for you. As always thanks for tagging along on this journey. Be Blessed. Omniley.

Adding a new Puppy to the Pact

Adding a new Puppy to the Pact

Wow can you believe Fall is upon us? 2020 has been dishing out some events, to say the least. Many of you may have noticed a new addition to the Belle Omniley family so I felt a formal introduction was well overdue. My new four-legged friend has been with us for a little over 2 months and we finally have a routine in place and I’m here to report on the addition and the journey so far.

Why a new dog? If you remember a while back my old buddy was experiencing some health issues and the veterinarian has been trying to prepare me for the worst. Bane is so well trained a breeder and dear friend of mine recommended I get a new puppy so Bane could help train him.

Why not another Corso? So I’m a stickler for loyalty and I didn’t want to get another Corso for fear that Bane would think I was trying to replace him, so I went to do a ton of research.

Why a Chinese Shar-Pei? One word “PROTECTION” One might say because of the look, but I need a pet that earns his keep. So far he is doing just that.

When picking our new friend I wasn’t so hung up on the coat color as I was the health history (as this is a high maintenance breed). After 3 weeks of searching for a breeder, I finally narrowed it down to two. Of course, I prayed about and my husband wanted me to get a Corso, but after I got a picture of Chubbs I was sold. They called him Bear. I’m sure I drove the breeder crazy with all my questions, but I wanted to make sure we were the perfect family for Bear.

Fast forward the day finally came for us to go get him. My son and I drove to TX and picked him up. My son held him the entire way back. The first two nights were a nightmare. A week into him being with us Bane decided to hit the road for at least 12 hours another long story. One walk into the pool and a scare snap later by Bane and he is running the house.

So far I have had to switch them to the same food because they each want each other’s food and any grains for Chubbs is a no-no. I also buy two of everything (identical) and it has helped keep the confusion down. My go-to foods are Acana Red Meat Grain-Free Acana Red Meat Grain-Free, Roam Freezer Dried treats Roam Freezer Dried treats, and Himalayan Pet chews Himalayan Pet chews.

They got off to a rocky start, but Bane is definitely doing a great job with training and looking after our new friend.

As always thanks for taking the time to follow my journey; where would I be without your support. Omniley

Belle’s All-Star Homemade French Fries

Belle’s All-Star Homemade French Fries

Paired here with my Southern Fried Catfish.

Greetings. I hope everyone is staying safe. I’m so ready for the fall and I am in full swing of putting up fall decor. I’m sharing with you all today my All-Star Homemade French Fries recipe. I think I have cooked these at least once a week since the pandemic and shared on my other channels. This recipe definitely deserves its own spot here on my blog. All of my family members love them when I serve them, so I am happy to be sharing with you all today. A couple of things I have changed over the years with my homemade fries is what I think is the game changer–leaving the skin on, self-rising flour, and flaky sea salt. Leaving the skin and the self-rising flour have taken the crunch factor to another level. I also love to add flaky sea salt as soon as they come out of the oil. You will see later I hand cut my fries everything is that love or just plain crazy. You tell me?

Belle’s Tip: Leave the skin on the potato; Just scrub the skin well with warm water.

A Woman’s Best Friend and Protector-My Dog and his Diet Journey

A Woman’s Best Friend and Protector-My Dog and his Diet Journey

Greetings. I hope this post finds you well. We recently began making changes to help with our buddy Bane’s overall health, especially as he gets up in age. I truly wish we had done this years ago…I remember vividly the day we picked him up from the airport. After months of researching the perfect dog for our family and finally getting the okay from my husband, we found the ideal Breeder. I did tons of research, and this guy and I have become like peanut butter and jelly.

If you have been following me for a while, you know we went through a scary patch last year when he underwent surgery and had a rocky recovery. It was then that I began doing thorough research on how we could help him more, and the first thing was his diet. I again started looking for a dog food that would support his overall health, including joint support and his energy level.

Funny thing is since he has been with us, he has always been a picky eater. I’m sure our veterinarian got sick of me talking about him not eating enough. I went from clockwork feeding to graze feeding, and he still never really ate as much as I thought he should. So let’s just say he has had his fair share of dog foods on the market. We have tried a raw diet, high protein, large breed and etc.; nothing ever hit the mark for us.

I recently discovered Wellness CORE RawRev with Wholesome Grains, and we are totally impressed. Wellness CORE RawRev is a natural, high-quality kibble with pieces of craveworthy 100% freeze dried raw meat. The turkey is so moist, and we love the all-natural ingredients.

We have noticed an increase in the luster and shininess of his coat and most importantly his energy level is improving. He is getting up in the morning and ready to eat.

We believe feeding your dog better food makes them healthier from the inside out. Wellness CORE RawRev is better food, so your best friend can live a better life. We are looking forward to many more great memories with our furry friend. Click here to learn more about Wellness CORE RawRev and save $3 off your purchase. Omniley?

At-Home Workout Studio

At-Home Workout Studio

Greetings! I hope this post finds you in good spirits. I know there is a lot going on in the world and we are all trying to do what is best for us. I’ve been gardening and knocking out DIY projects. I also started designing an at-home workout studio. I have always wanted to do this but thought I would just take over my son’s gaming room in the main house when he left for college so it was no big deal.

Fast forward to 2020, COVID-19 and I haven’t been to the gym since March 2020. I started riding my regular outside bike, but it wasn’t a structured routine, and to add all the mosquito attacks I was too done. My gym has opened back but as a licensed healthcare professional I am too afraid to return at this time. Now I am not saying to anyone don’t go to the gym; this is just my personal preference at this time.

I looked into Peloton and Echelon…I was hearing that Peloton shipping was like two-plus months and I reached out to Echelon to discuss a partnership and they never got back to me. So I did a little research and ended up going with Joroto Indoor Stationary Bike from Amazon.  As a disclaimer, I have never ridden a Peloton or Echelon; I did take a look at an Echelon at our local Academy Sports, but it was sold out in-store and online for $799.

[slide-anything id=”869″]

I can only speak to the Joroto Indoor Stationary Bike; it is a super stable and quiet bike with a tray for a tablet (no LCD/monitor included). I use the tray for my water bottle and phone, and I utilize the Peloton classes via our TV on Amazon Fire Stick. At this point I have completed approximately 7(20 to 30-minute) rides and feel I have had enough experience to provide a valid review. I also ordered the Woohoo Cadence to accurately monitor my cadence and resistance; it’s currently on backorder and shipment is still pending.

I definitely recommend a water bottle and a sweat towel before starting any riding session. My first ride with the sauna suit on I was sweating my life away. I didn’t want to stop in the middle of the session, so go figure–sweat was pouring down my face the whole ride.

We are looking to add a weight bench to the studio in the near future, but for now, I have a pair of 15# dumbbells. I definitely encourage you to do your research. I will update this post as needed.  The Joroto X2 is currently unavailable. I provided an alternate option by them below.

Working From Home and Staying Sane

Working From Home and Staying Sane

I hope this message is finding you well. I know we all are continuing to adjust to the pandemic the world is currently experiencing. Most, if not all, non-essential workers are presently working from home or off until further notice. I’ve been a remote field worker for the past seven years, so working from home has become second nature to me. The monkey wrench is throw in a teenager and husband, and now you need to get crafty on maintaining your sanity. My office is off the kitchen wing, our sunroom, and while I have a fantastic view, it can sometimes get a bit noisy. I’m sharing with you today a few tips that have helped me maintain my sanity and remain productive on my work from home days.

-Avoid sleeping in…even if your office is in your home due to temporary circumstances! Rise and shine Kings and Queens, remember the early bird catches the worm! How you start the first hour of your day sets the tone for the rest of the day.

-Lose the PJs…you feel how you look. Brush your hair and put on a cute lipstick. If it’s nothing more than your basic classic tee and a comfy pair of jeans or lounge pants, your productivity level is bound to skyrocket when you look cute.

-Dedicated Workspace…avoid working from your bedroom or any places where you usually relax, we want each space to have a dedicated purpose. If WFH is a temporary situation, try to find a space as private as possible, try to avoid working from the bedroom at all costs.

-Physical Activity…if you feel you are getting overwhelmed, step outside that a walk. Turn on some music and dance it out. Anything to get your adrenal going.

-Keep a schedule…avoid the occasional goofing off by taking a scheduled lunch break and at least two 15- minutes breaks planned where you can do you personal internet browsing and social media checks

-Virtual Check-ins…Check-in with co-workers, family, and friends. While we are mostly under stay at home orders; we can still get creative. There is always FaceTime, Zoom, Skype, and many other virtual checks we can do to stay connected. Make sure you have at least one person you can call and vent to!

-Be productive…use this time wisely! Make memories with the family, knock out any lingering DIY/home projects, and by all means, stay safe.

I hope at least one of these tips will help you through the current unprecedented times we are experiencing. May God continue to bless you, and thank you for reading. Omniley
