HOST A GENERATIONAL TEA PARTY FOR MOTHER’S DAY

HOST A GENERATIONAL TEA PARTY FOR MOTHER’S DAY

Greetings, I hope this post finds you well. Thinking of treating mom to something different this year. How about hosting a generational afternoon tea party.  I remember hosting a generational tea party about five years ago and it was unforgettable. The hardest part of the planning was locating the perfect teacup set. A generational tea party is perfect for moms of all ages.

I love mixing the old with the new; it not only speaks to my grand millennial style, but it is also sustainable. I was able to thrift my teacup and saucer set from an estate sale along with my floral teapot.

What do you need to host an afternoon generational tea party? Guest, tea sandwiches, scones, desserts, and of course tea. Traditional afternoon tea is normally served between lunch and dinner and is accompanied by light treats. I sharing all the hosting tips and tricks below on how to make a generational afternoon tea party a hit.

Black Tea

Earl Grey tea is probably the most famous black tea blend in the world. It has a citrusy, sweet flavor thanks to the bergamot oil. Earl grey tea pairs best with afternoon tea sweets.

Tea Sandwiches

I opted to serve chicken salad sandwiches, egg salad rolls, and cucumber dill sandwiches. The chicken and egg salad sandwiches can be prepared a day ahead. I don’t recommend doing the cucumber sandwiches until the day of your event. You can however slice the cucumbers ahead of time and place them in a Ziploc bag.

Scones

Here’s the perfect time to showcase your baking skills. If you have that perfect scones recipe it’s time to share it with your friends. No worries if you don’t bake or if you are short on time. Check with your local bakery or fresh market they usually have fresh scones daily.

Desserts

Don’t wear yourself out when it comes to preparing your dessert.  I was able to get macaroons and 2 bite brownies from our local Oak Point Market.

The last afternoon tea party I held was a few years ago. I don’t think we follow all the hard fast rules of a proper tea party, so  I did find a guide that details the do’s and don’t of a tea party for reference.

Hosting Tip: If you are hosting a tea party at your house, you can use anything from a simple teapot or kettle to something culturally traditional, like a cast iron pot to brew tea. Cast iron teapots can improve the taste of tea, especially if they have been passed down from previous generations.

If you are still stuck on what to do for Mother’s Day or would like to hold your own afternoon tea party I hope you bookmark this reading and save it for later. Omniley

THE PERFECT MOTHER’S DAY PRESENT

THE PERFECT MOTHER’S DAY PRESENT

It’s almost that special day to celebrate your favorite mom.  As a foodie and entertainer, I love getting items I can use and spread more love. I have rounded up some of the best Mother’s Day presents I have on my wishlist list.

I’ve had this massager in my Amazon cart for over four months now. If I don’t receive this for Mother’s Day from either my husband or son I plan on going on a cooking strike for a week.

I love a gift that benefits the whole family. We have been thinking about getting a stone oven for the patio to do pizzas. I think this would be perfect for us.

I was browsing Amazon last week and saw this heated mug and I thought how clever. This would be perfect for tea or coffee. What mom on your list do you think needs this?

Be sure to celebrate that special mom in your life daily and not just Mother’s Day! Omniley

EASY DIY CANDY SHINE EASTER EGGS

EASY DIY CANDY SHINE EASTER EGGS

CANDY SHINE EASTER EGGS

What are your favorite Easter memories? Believe it or not, for me it was getting an Easter dress to wear to church when I was young. I believe this went on until I was at least 13, for that reason I always wanted to have a girl so I could play dress-up.

Fast forward to today my joy for Easter has not only shifted to understanding the meaning of Easter but also my love for Easter eggs has grown. I recently took a deeper dive To find out what Easter eggs symbolize. According to history.com “The egg, an ancient symbol of new life, has been associated with pagan festivals celebrating spring. From a Christian perspective, Easter eggs are said to represent Jesus’ emergence from the tomb and resurrection. Decorating eggs for Easter is a tradition that dates back to at least the 13th century, according to some sources. One explanation for this custom is that eggs were formerly a forbidden food during the Lenten season, so people would paint and decorate them to mark the end of the period of penance and fasting, then eat them on Easter as a celebration.” (Source: History.com) Nowadays there are so many creative ways to decorate Easter eggs it is amazing. One of my favorites is the chinoiserie print.

Another design that’s been around for a few years is the marble design.

Easy DIY Candy Shine Easter Eggs

This year I tried Easy DIY Candy Shine Easter Eggs. I recommend dying the eggs a few days in advance and adding the gloss over drinks with family or it can be done with the kiddos too. The Candy Shine Easter Eggs were super easy and I love the beautiful shine effect as they were displayed on my dining table. We plan on starting an annual Egg hunt with Chubbs this year. We did this with our late Bane and he found all the eggs every time. Are you looking for a sustainable way to use all your leftover eggs?  Check on my blog on Deviled Eggs another yummy treat. I hope you all have a wonderful Easter.

VALENTINE’S DAY CELEBRATION

VALENTINE’S DAY CELEBRATION

Happy Valentine’s Day to all. Nothing like celebrating the ones you love 365 days a year and doing it in color on Valentine’s Day. I’m sharing with you a few easy ways to show a little extra love on Valentine’s Day.

While my husband and I aren’t huge fans of Valentine’s Day I still have at least one nook in our home decorated for Valentine’s Day. This year it ended up being my buffet table.

This year I opted to get my husband and son special Valentine cards from Hallmark’s Mahogany Collection. They always have the perfect cards for any occasion.  I also baked them a sweet treat and these came with heart sprinkles.

I hope you all have a wonderful and safe Valentine’s Day. Here’s to showing you family love 365 days a year. Be Well-Omniley

Mardi Gras Decor & All

Mardi Gras Decor & All

Greetings. I hope this post finds you well. A good friend once told me” a second on the lips and a lifetime on the hips”.  I definitely find this true for traditional king cake for myself! I usually make a keto version, but this year has already been in full swing for me. I love that my local Oak Point offers all its flavors in a petite version and they bake them in-house daily. I’m not sure if the ship yet, but I have listed below some local bakeries that definitely ship.

Brennan’s

Gambino’s

Manny Randazzo

If you love Mardi Gras, I heard it’s on for 2022 in New Orleans! So enjoy and be safe my friends. Omniley

Traditional Christmas Tree

Traditional Christmas Tree

Greetings and Happy Holidays! This year we went with a Grand Fir in our family room, and it did not disappoint. Initially, I had second thoughts when I started decorating it, and my ornaments ended up being too heavy for the branches. I quickly realized the beauty was in the tree itself. We then embedded the decorations closer to the tree trunk, and it turned out perfectly.

Happy Holidays from our home to yours! Omniley

BLUE AND GOLD CHRISTMAS

BLUE AND GOLD CHRISTMAS

Greetings! I hope this post finds you well. It’s officially the holiday season for my crew and me. All trees are up and decked. Over the past few weeks, I’ve been working on a new theme for our dining room, and I am all about sustainability, so I decided to use the living room theme in the dining room this year. The blue and gold are such a royal and elegant color theme for this formal setting. I used our 9′ Blue Spruce, and I think it accommodates our dining room well.

While this tree is in our dining room, it would make the perfect tree for any entryway or family room. This year I added smart plugs to all my trees to prolong the life of the trees, both the artificial ones and our real ones. I hope to share more of our home over the holidays on the blog. If not, be sure to follow me on Pinterest or Instagram for more daily home decor, recipes, and lifestyle inspirations. I don’t have anything on my list this year for Santa. I’m already blessed enough. Be Well.

Autumn Cookie Board

Autumn Cookie Board

In the mood for a quick fall board. This cookie board is sure to please everyone in the mood for a sweet treat. This board would actually work year round by adding or removing the seasonal decor. I picked up the mini pumpkins in the produce section of our local grocery store and they really brought the board to life. The chocolate pairs well with the perfect glass of red wine. I hope this display inspires you to try your own seasonal board and any leftovers can be placed in a Ziploc bag for snacks throughout the week. Be Well-Omniley
